Pilanesberg Nationalpark - South Africa

The last few days of our trip were going to be special! We changed locations within South Africa once again, traveling from the rather cool, rainy, and windy Cape Town to the warm and dry Johannesburg. After a two-hour drive from Johannesburg, Anton was already waiting for us on the edge of Pilanesberg National Park! We spent four nights there: two in a large South African guesthouse and two in a tent, right in the middle of a wildlife reserve. During the day, we drove into the national park with Anton and saw virtually every animal the country has to offer, except for the water buffalo. An incredibly beautiful experience! The absolute highlight was spotting a leopard, which even came within two meters of our safari vehicle. A truly goosebump-inducing moment!

We also witnessed a very special event: at dusk, we watched a small group of elephants pause to mourn the skeleton of a deceased (relative) elephant. This situation once again showed us how often the animal world is underestimated.

A big thank you again to Irmgard, who put us in touch with Anton, and of course to Anton himself, who gave us such unforgettable days there. Hopefully we'll see each other again soon!
