New York City
"I've never been to New York," sings not only Udo Jürgens, but also Lovis, shortly before we landed at LaGuardia Airport. Lovis had never been there; Alex had been once with his family several years ago. Our first visit was to be dominated by considerations of how best to spread our message. For this, we had to make do with a very run-down apartment in New Jersey, where we called rats our roommates. That's what happens when you're careful with money in NYC. During the day, we visited Columbia University and New York University, and then in the evening, we took the bus back across the Hudson River. Together, we discovered the beautiful, artistic, but also the dirty and not-so-beautiful sides of NYC. A city that we both understand why someone would fall in love with. For both of us, however, it's a bit too big.
New York City 2.0
The second stay here was much more pleasant thanks to a friend's lovely apartment, and this time the focus was on the typical tourist attractions. The Upper West Side is actually quite a pleasant place to be.
A ferry ride on the Hudson River, including a visit to the Statue of Liberty, admiring the skyline from Top of the Rock, the Museum of Natural History, runs through Central Park, and much more… During our second stay in NYC, we did the typical tourist thing and explored the city. This was made possible primarily by our friend's apartment, which was perfectly located and, most importantly, air-conditioned. Near Central Park, we had our perfect retreat in bustling New York. Here, we also saw another sport live for the first time: American football. We definitely didn't want to miss a Jets preseason game.
